Phoneme Review
Week 2 - Day 3
Phoneme /oi/ Segmenting Practice
Say a word that contains the target phoneme. Practice tapping (on your hand, arm, or jaw) as you say each of the phonemes contained in the word. Have the students count the phonemes. After they have determined the number of phonemes in the word, use an Elkonin box to segment the word into its phonemes. For example, “coin” would be segmented as: “/c/-/oi/-/n/”
Sight Words “sometimes” and “over”
Make several copies of the sight word. Use blue tack to stick the sight words all around the classroom. Let the students go around the room and hunt for the sight words. If they can find one and read it correctly, you can give them a sticker (you can also give stickers to students who make a good effort).
Lesson Duration: 15 mins
Materials Needed: Elkonin boxes, many copies of sight words “sometimes” and “over” flashcards
