Unit 3 - Week 7: Long and short Oo review, sight words: come, father
Phoneme Review
Week 7 - Day 2
Long OO Segmenting Practice
Say a word that contains the target phoneme. Practice tapping (on your hand, arm, or jaw) as you say each of the phonemes contained in the word. Have the students count the phonemes. After they have determined the number of phonemes in the word, use an Elkonin box to segment the word into its phonemes. For example, “pool” would be segmented as: “/p/-/oo/-/l/”
Sight Words “come” and “father”
Practice writing the sight words on individual whiteboards. Write the words slowly, letter by letter. Remember to repeat the words, and have students repeat the words, as you write.
Lesson Duration: 15 mins
Materials Needed: Elkonin boxes, whiteboards, sight words “come” and “father” flashcards
