Phoneme Review
Week 1 - Day 5
Long A Segmenting Practice
Say a word that contains the target phoneme. Practice tapping (on your hand, arm, or jaw) as you say each of the phonemes contained in the word. Have the students count the phonemes. After they have determined the number of phonemes in the word, use an Elkonin box to segment the word into its phonemes. For example, “play” would be segmented as: “/p/-/l/-/ā/”
Sight Words “asked” and “began”
Place this week’s sight words on the floor with some previously learned sight words. Call out a word and have the students race to find the flashcard. This can be a competitive game, or an individual activity.
Lesson Duration: 15 mins
Materials Needed: Elkonin boxes, previously learned sight words flashcards, sight words “asked” and “began” flashcards
