Administer this assessment at the beginning of each semester.

This pre-assessment is designed to help teachers and parents determine their child’s reading level within the Jade Monkey program. Ask your child to read the following reading samples. If they can read reading sample one with greater than 80% accuracy, move on to reading sample two. Continue in this way until the student cannot read more than 80% of the words in the reading sample accurately. The level they reach will be their initial reading level. Make sure the student is informed that this is a pre-assessment, and that they are in a stable and relatively calm mood.
